Teacher-led
Classrooms
Both Teacher-led and Independent Learning at AYW lead to a diploma.
The majority of the classes at our largest campus (1901 E. Ben
White) look, at first-glance, like traditional high school classes.
Students are all working on the same class and project, and the
experience is led by a teacher often standing at the front of the
room.
In truth, they are very different from traditional school. First,
they are smaller in size (18:1 at most) and second; they utilize
learning techniques so that all kinds of learners can successfully
acquire the core topics taught.
Two important learning methodologies are:
o Service Learning – linking classroom activities to real
world activities, and
o Quantum Learning a brain-based method that helps students better
understand and retain information. And it is fun!
Participants have the option of attending one of two half-day sessions,
either 8:00 A.M. to 12:10 P.M. or 12:30 P.M. to 4:40 P.M. The schedule
is designed to be flexible so students can pursue job-training,
employment or take care of their children in the morning or the
afternoon.
