COMPUTER CORPS IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF RETIRED COMPUTERS!
Computer Corps (C-Corps) is a green jobs training program that trains youth in refurbishing used computers which are distributed to citizens in need in the community. Members of C-Corps also serve in technology-based internships with other non-profit partners in Austin and learn workplace skills while providing partners with technical assistance. C-Corps addresses a great need: the “Digital Divide,” which is the lack of access to technology and to technology training by low-income/low-skilled individuals.
Computer Corps members:
- Refurbish at least 40 computers per year to donate to the surrounding community, including individuals, families and organizations;
- Provide or support technology training to low-income/low-skilled individuals through site placements;
- Earn a bi-weekly stipend and an end-of-term education award;
- Serve between 450 and 900 hours, depending on their term of service – an average of 20 service hours per week;
- Receive ongoing training by C-Corps staff members; and
- Are engaged in leadership development training and other service activities.
How can you be involved in C-Corps’ success?
- Donate retired computers for our members to refurbish.
- Speak at one of our weekly trainings.
- Offer a site placement to a C-Corps member.
- Request a computer donation for your organization or participating families and individuals.
