American
YouthWorks’ (AYW) Charter School is designed to effectively
educate and inspire youth, ages 16 to 21, who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school.
This award-winning and academically acceptable school:
- is a fully accredited public high school chartered in 1996
- educates more than 1,000 at-risk youth each year
- has two campuses—downtown and south at Ben White at IH-35
- offers High School Diploma or GED
- provides morning or afternoon schedules—each class day
is four hours.
AYW provides a unique learning environment. Traditional schools
aren’t designed to accommodate different types of learners.

Charter School Governance
The American YouthWorks Charter School is governed by the American YouthWorks Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meet the fourth Monday of every month at 5:30 pm at the Downtown Campus, located at 216 East 4th Street in Austin. The Board of Directors has appointed a Charter School Committee which is comprised of Board members to discuss governance issues related solely to the Charter School. The Charter School Committee meeting is held the third Monday of the every month at 12:30 pm at the Downtown Campus. Both meetings are open to the public.
